One evening not so long ago, I was reaching for a roll of toilet paper when I discovered that there was no toilet paper. This was a problem. After making do with what I had, I considered notifying the custodial service (this was at the office), but it was after hours. There probably wasn’t going to be any toilet paper in that stall for another day.
Hoping to save somebody else from that situation, I created the following sign.
It was while I was posting it that I started thinking about how people only post warnings for things that could get them sued. No one thinks twice about posting warning signs around construction areas, electrical boxes, or containers of biohazardous waste, but what about other less lawsuit-worthy hazards? I wasn’t about to sue over a missing roll of toilet paper, but some prior notice would have been nice.
After considering a few other hazards that would probably not warrant any kind of official warning, I decided to make posters for them.
If any of the following ever save you from an unpleasant situation, please do let me know.
Update: Vassar’s custodial services saved the original poster! (Although, fortunately, neither they nor I have had any reason to re-use it.)
