Surreal

I've always loved surreal works, from actual Surrealist paintings to any art that's startling, unusual, and/or imaginative. I was about fifteen when I started looking at the engravings of Dutch artist M. C. Escher, and that influenced work I did for years afterward. Escher wasn't a Surrealist - he didn't, as far as I know, consider himself a part of any "ism" - but he's still one of the most innovative artists I've ever seen. If you notice that a lot of the drawings in this gallery look suspiciously Escher-esque, now you know why.
