Alley
charcoal - 1998
I did Alley around the time I started to get into charcoal pencil. I wasn’t too thrilled with charcoal at first, since it was smeary and hard to control, but I liked the intense blacks and rough gradients.
Alley combines a number of different elements that I worked a lot with in 1998: bizarre architecture, Escher-esque details, and graffiti.
