Scratchboard is terrific for stark, black-and-white drawings. I did a lot of experimenting with it in the late 90s. Blind Eye began as one such exploration.
I didn’t decide on a specific message for this work. That could be an asteroid, coming to obliterate a world that put its asteroid-watch funding into the War On Terror, or it could be a particularly spectacular Halley’s Comet. The choice is the viewer’s.
On a personal note, though, I do wonder sometimes if anyone will be around to see the end of the world. Will we share in the destruction of our planet, or destroy ourselves by other means long before it happens?
